* I say tevez aside but even he didn't come without a lot of baggage.

Tevez aside, and I'm going out on a limb here, but have we ever signed a player from south/Central American leagues and it been a success?

Lee Trundle 2:38

His physicality seems cut out for us and for the Premier League actually.

The Mexican player who hit that free kick v Saudis. Nearly scored with a 2nd too.
Still playing in Mexico so should be cheap

This isn't me writing Scamacca off, but someone like Embolo would have been a much better replacement for Antonio.

The likes of Scamacca and Paqueta are likely to be very good player, I'm just not at all convinced they'll be very good players in a Moyes team

Whoever did our recruitment last summer needs to be binned off, regardless.

and actually considering he was about 17, his record at Basel was phenomenal, but those Schalke and BM years are a bit meagre in comparison- big step up in quality of competition though.

Re: Players at the World Cup you would like to see at West Ham.
Yeah, I like the look of Embolo as well.

Although the other day I looked up his scoring record and it was surprisingly a little modest. I thought he was more prolific:

2014–2016 Basel 61 apps (21) goals
2016–2019 Schalke 04 48 (10)
2019–2022 Borussia Mönchengladbach 88 (22)
2022– Monaco 15 (7)

2015– Switzerland 63 (13)

However 7 in 15 isn't so bad this season and he's still only 25, and you're right- 12 mill is a bit of a snip for him. I feel in the right situation there are a lot of goals in him. (So maybe NOT West Ham then!)

Embolo, who we were linked with, would have been decent business for the £12m he went for.

I think he'd have been the perfect replacement for Antonio.

Winston Reid- success
Valencia (I think?)- not a success

Trying to think of players we'd bought off the back of tournaments, obviously Breen, Margas of Chile, Barrera of Mexico... none of them were a success, who else?

That Ronaldo from Portugal looks a good young prospect and a real team player. Very impressed with his attitude. AND I think he's currently between clubs, so that would be a fantastic, cheap, no downside signing.

Have to agree on Armedrabbit from Morocco who looks like he's running on Duracell batteries! Never stops running, good in the tackle and good passer. Very impressed

Then again I think a lot of the Moroccan players were superb and look like they have the physical toughness required in the premiership

In particular, Hakimi

Ziyech is with Chelsea I believe, and he was outstanding, though hasn't yet made his mark with them yet

Add that young Ramos to the shopping basket

Realistic probably doesn't mean starters from perenial Champions League challengers.

Watford/Udinese took the kid in midfield I thought we should look at as a project- Ismael Kone

Celtic took the right back/right wing back I like - Alistair Johnston
